Restore Respect at School

Support The State Legislation

HB  630:   Restore Respect at School Act

Calls on parents and guardians to attend parent teacher conferences and utilize community services following repeat suspensions for disrespect, insubordination or classroom disruption, and following chronic absences from school or risk losing access to some state tax benefits.

HB 632:  Classroom Management Training

Requires that all teachers, whether they are educated in Maryland or elsewhere, receive some classroom management training prior to teaching in a Maryland classroom.

HB 633: Leave for Discipline Related Parent-Teacher Conferences

Requires Maryland employers to provide four hours per year of paid or unpaid leave for parents and guardians to attend discipline-related parent-teacher conferences.

I urge your support for these modest reforms intended to Restore Respect at School, retain quality school personnel, lower turnover costs to local school systems, and importantly, maximize classroom learning time for students in an increasing competitive global environment.
